-Iris recognition is a technology that identifies who it is by recognizing iris patterns, and it is applied to animals.
-There is no need to press a button, it automatically recognizes when the iris is most clearly visible.

EYEDLAB is a company that develops a pet authentication platform. It was founded by CEO Jin-sung Jung (40) in August 2019.

CEO Jung said, “I worked on SW and HW development for 10 years at Samsung Electronics,” and introduced “ID Lab as a tech company that creates animal authentication and healthcare technologies based on iris recognition technology.”

EYEDLAB has created the world’s first pet iris recognition technology. “Existing iris recognition (human) technology cannot be used because the eye structure of humans and animals is different. Iris recognition is a technology that identifies who it is by recognizing iris patterns, and we have applied this to animals. Not only recognition, but also eye diseases can be detected at the same time.”

CEO Jung emphasized, “What I am most confident in is our technical skills.” “Recognition is automatic when the iris is most clearly visible without the need to press a button. This is the most important point when filming animals that cannot stay still. Anyone can easily authenticate on their own, and the recognition rate is over 99.999%. In addition, turbidity detection of the eye and detection of other eye diseases occur within 1-2 seconds of iris recognition.”

EYEDLAB received investment from the Jeju Creative Economy Innovation Center. CEO Jung said, “We are also receiving a lot of business help,” and said, “From next year, we plan to continue growing with sales, not investment.”

How did CEO Jung start a business? “I once lost a puppy I was raising at home and found it hard to find it by running around myself. At that time, I felt the need for biometric technology, and when I researched it, there was no animal biometric technology. This event led to me developing alone while working at the company, and after presenting at a developer forum called Pycon, there were many inquiries, leading to the establishment of a company.”

After starting a business, CEO Jung said, “When I was working at a company before, I had several experiences where my life changed according to the company’s operating policy,” and said, “After starting a business, there is no boss above me, so I feel the most rewarding when I feel that ID Lab is growing through my own choices, decisions, and the efforts of the team.”

Based on the competitiveness of its items, EYEDLAB was selected for the global corporate collaboration program at Seoul National University of Science and Technology. CEO Jung said, “Funding is the biggest part, and besides that, the know-how of AWS and the education needed for corporate operation are really helpful.”

EYEDLAB is being developed by CEO Jung, and a strategic planner and designer, a total of 3 people, are working together. CEO Jung said, “We get along very well,” and said, “Even if our company grows significantly in the future, we plan to maintain a small scale.”

Regarding future plans, CEO Jung said, “We plan to expand our area to healthcare services such as searching for eye diseases in pets using iris recognition technology,” and said, “Our goal is to contribute to animal welfare innovation by widely using our company’s technology.”
